Therapy is a safe and effective treatment for a variety of emotional difficulties and mental health concerns. It offers the opportunity to discuss/talk about issues that are important to you, while having a trained objective person (therapist) there to help work through the current distressing issues while also helping to eliminate similar future situations. Therapy can be about one specific problem, or it can be about multiple.
Therapy is a collaborative approach, it requires an active role from both the client and the therapist for change to occur.
The initial session will be to discuss the history and need for treatment of the client. During the first session the client will have the opportunity to see how therapy will work, review privacy and confidentiality, as well as determine whether or not they are comfortable with the therapist.
NOTE: It is vital to have a positive working relationship with your therapist.
Therapeutic services are generally covered or partially covered by most third party health insurance plans. Following each session, you will receive an official receipt to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. The receipts will indicate that you received therapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. If you have extended health care benefits, it is recommended that you check with your insurance company to ensure these services will be covered, prior to your first session.
Everything discussed during a therapy sessions is kept confidential, except in situations where harm has or might happen to you or another person. A client’s confidential information may be released without his/her/their consent under the following conditions:
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. Clients typically meet on a weekly, bi weekly, or monthly basis depending on the client’s needs. Length of time while in therapy will depend on the individual client’s circumstances. The therapist and client will determine that together.
The only way to know for sure if I am the right fit is to come in for a session. Most of the time people have a good sense of whether I am the right professional to help within the first two sessions. However, I have tried to provide you with information on this website and my Psychology Today profile to gain a sense of who I am and how I work.
Payments for therapy services can be made via cash, debit, credit card, or e-transfer.
